Nagarkot Community Health Centre (NCHC) is a vital community initiative operated by Health Care Foundation-Nepal, a nonprofit organization dedicated to health, environment, and disaster medicine. Despite being so close to the Kathmandu Valley, Nagarkot — a beloved destination for visitors — still faces gaps in accessible healthcare infrastructure. NCHC exists to bridge that gap, ensuring that communities in and around Nagarkot receive the primary care they deserve.
Although formally inaugurated on May 8, 2008, the Centre has been serving local families since 2002. Over the years, it has provided essential services including outpatient care, maternal and child health support, family planning, and general consultations. An ambulance service stands ready for emergencies, ensuring that help is never too far away.
Beyond daily care, the Centre actively organizes health camps in partnership with generous volunteer groups such as Rotary and Lions Club. Every year, a ‘First Aid Camp’ is held during the Mahadev Pokhari Mela. Free kidney screenings, eye check-ups, and dental camps are also arranged annually, thanks to collaborations with specialized hospitals from across Nepal.
A dedicated team — including a Health Assistant, Auxiliary Midwife Nurse, Community Medical Assistant, and ambulance driver — keeps the Centre running smoothly. Essential medicines are made available to patients at cost price, making basic healthcare truly affordable.
When the devastating earthquake struck Nepal on April 25, 2015, the Centre’s doors remained open. Thankfully, no staff or patients were harmed, though four staff members lost their homes. Their resilience remains an inspiration to us all.
Today, NCHC stands stronger than ever. A new building was made possible through the generosity of our Honorary Advisor, Madam Beate Vogt, along with the Board members of HECAF-Nepal and many kind supporters. On April 9, 2017, during the 20th anniversary of the National Kidney Center, Madam Vogt officially reinstated the Centre’s services and contributed vital equipment and supplies during her visit.
Nagarkot Community Health Centre remains deeply committed to serving the community, ensuring that everyone — no matter how remote — can access the care they need to live healthier, safer lives.
